VLK Architects’ Original Research Earns Acceptance by the Journal of Education

Fort Worth, Texas - VLK Architects is honored to learn that Learning Spaces Matter: Student Engagement in New Learning Environments, an article written in collaboration with The University of Texas at Tyler, has been accepted by SAGE Publishing and by the prestigious Journal of Education. The report addresses the study, entitled The Impact of Learning Environments on Student Engagement, that explored perceptions of students and teachers about the impact that architectural design has on student engagement by analyzing two Texas replacement elementary schools.

“Architects design schools every day, but the impact that their designs have on learning is often unknown to those that design the schools,” said Dr. Dalane Bouillion Ed.D., VLK Principal of Educational Planning. “We wanted to contribute to the educational canon of research and to inform other educational institutions about the importance of well-designed spaces that facilitate improved learning environments.”
